As luxurious as hotels get, Atlantis – The Palm is the sister of the Atlantis hotel in the Bahamas, only better. These hotels are based on the mythological lost city of Atlantis and their Neptune and Poseidon underwater rooms offer spectacular views of the ruins of an ancient city as well as having access to your own personal aquarium from the comfort of your own bed. As if that wasn’t enough, the suites come with their own 24/7 butler, a personal trainer AND a dolphin encounter.

The only underwater hotel in Sweden is located in Lake Marlen, near Stockholm. Although not as luxurious as some of the other hotels on this list, the experience is definitely a must. Small twin rooms are situated 3m under the surface of the water and have panoramic windows in all directions. Up top is a wooden deck that is perfect for escaping the underwater world and catching some rays.

The world’s first truly underwater hotel is only accessible via a 21ft scuba dive off the coast of Key Largo. Guests’ luggage is brought down in waterproof containers and you can even get pizza delivered. Previously a scientific research base, it has now been converted it to a cosy little hotel.

Easy to mistake for little floating shacks in the wide open sea, 13ft below the water’s surface is a glass bedroom which allows you to get as up close as possible with the passing reef fish without actually getting wet. These two story apartments are located on the side of one of the world’s largest aquariums. The top floor hovers on the surface of the water, where you have your own private pool, whilst the lower level bedroom is fully submerged.
